16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence
The Muslim Women’s Association of South Australia proudly stands in solidarity with the global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, an international campaign calling for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls.
Gender-based violence is a violation of human rights and has no place in our faith, our families, or our communities. Islam upholds dignity, justice, compassion, and the protection of all people — values that are fundamentally incompatible with abuse, coercion, or harm in any form.
Our Commitment
MWASA is committed to:
Raising awareness about gender-based violence and its impact on individuals, families, and communities
Challenging harmful attitudes, cultural practices, and misconceptions that perpetuate violence
Supporting women through education, advocacy, referral pathways, and culturally responsive services
Promoting safe, respectful, and equitable relationships grounded in dignity and mutual respect
What the 16 Days Represent
The campaign runs annually from 25 November (International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) to 10 December (International Human Rights Day). During these 16 days, organisations and communities around the world unite to speak out, educate, and take action against all forms of gender-based violence, including domestic and family violence, sexual violence, emotional abuse, and coercive control.
Standing Together
Ending gender-based violence requires collective responsibility. MWASA calls on community members, leaders, families, and allies to stand together, listen to survivors, and work towards safe, inclusive, and violence-free communities.
If you or someone you know is experiencing violence, support is available. You are not alone, and help is confidential.
