Harmony Day Celebrations

21 March 2018 – Harmony Day celebrations at MWASA were in full swing on Wednesday, 21 March as participants and staff gathered dressed in their best cultural attires sticking to the theme – “Cultural dresses around the world”.

Our participants from the ACE program, prepared an interesting presentation, while students from the intermediate English class created a poster depicting what Harmony Day meant to them. The computer class put together a fashion quiz, featuring garments and accessories associated with the countries of origin of students from all the ACE classes. The quiz did get a little rambunctious as good-natured disagreements broke out regarding just which country was the correct answer. It appears that women who share borders also share fashion!

On the whole, it was a fun-filled day 🙂 Almost everyone wore a garment they had brought from home.

Quotes from tutors:
“It was a lovely event and it was clear that everyone present enjoyed themselves.  From my perspective it was great to see the common thread between everyone from different cultures, nationality, religion and language. That is, everyone joined in and were interested in other women’s presentations and cultures. One of the South American women observed that she enjoyed the opportunity to meet with women from other cultures as she had previously had not opportunity to meet with Muslim women and to learn more about them (she also referred to coming to English Classes at MWASA.)  This was also the same for the Muslim women meeting the women from South America! – Sarah, Tutor for the English Class
